Faith is seeing light with your heart when all your eyes see is darkness!

By Barbara Johnson

Enlightenment means to become en-light-ened or made lighter through an experience. Becoming enlightened is the expression that is most helpful to us when we find ourselves going through what the mystic St. John of the Cross called “the dark night of the soul”. In the midst of this murky spiritual soup, we can bury our heads, give up – or take the “walk of fire” through the darkness, having faith that we will return to the light once again.

Do you block yourself from feeling pain, grief, and fear – digging your heels in and draining your precious energy with your resistance, trying your best to hold it all in?

Or…

…will you willingly surrender to your grief, pain and fear, allowing it to penetrate your being, pierce your heart, and re-mold you, forever changing you for the better?

Imagine a luminous figure with its left hand extended, holding a lantern, while the figure takes your right hand. As you walk together through a long dark tunnel, you see many shelves housing the skeletons of your past. As you pass these things, people and experiences, you are leaving them behind and moving at lightning speed in the present moment.

Moving through your most difficult and painful experiences offers up the opportunity to gain a pure and truthful understanding of and compassion for the plight of others. It allows you to let go of judgment and criticism, expanding your awareness from a place of ego to one of humility.

As you walk through the darkness and back into the light, you bring with you new knowledge, perspective and healing, preparing you to be a “way-show-er” for others and allowing you to hold the light that illuminates the way back to peace.

Our souls are guiding us toward the truth. Purity of the body and mind equals a great internal strength and spiritual power that will carry us further along to our destiny and smooth the road ahead.

Click this link to read my blog article this month, “Purifying the mind”. This article speaks of the importance of our thoughts and how they affect our spirit and our body.

To experience the full range of human emotions, you must be willing to dive into the ocean and swim to the dark depths of your soul.

True joy, bliss, happiness and love exist right alongside grief and emotional pain. The light co-habits with the darkness. In order to live life in color and to experience the full range your human emotions, you must embrace the dark and the light – without one, the other would not exist.

Now, let your light shine brilliantly and brightly!

Good Reads

This section is for book recommendations you would like to share that pertain to spirituality, spiritual growth, healing, angels…anything that speaks to feeding the soul.

If you have read a good book you think may be of interest, please send me an email message to [email protected], and I may include it in some future month’s newsletter.

My recommendation this month is Heal Your Body by Louise L. Hay. This book is a reference guide and a dictionary of sorts that describes how the parts of the body connect with the mental, spiritual and / or emotional causes of physical symptoms we may be experiencing. The book also offers positive affirmations that can support the healing of our mind.

Use this as a tool for spiritual awakening that can support your own healing process and help to balance your body, mind and spirit. Click this link to read more about this book.

Live for today but hold your hands open to tomorrow. Anticipate the future and its changes with joy. There is a seed of God’s love in every event, every unpleasant situation in which you may find yourself.
